How to back up and restore your WhatsApp messages with Google Drive

How to back up between Android and iPhone

If you plan to switch from Android to iPhone and want to carry WhatsApp messages with you, you will be lucky.

  • Launch WhatsApp from the main screen or app drawer.

Now everything is supported and chat can be resumed every time you reinstall WhatsApp regardless of device. Please note that whenever you back up to Google Drive, WhatsApp is also backed up to your phone’s memory, which means it will take up some space. If you have a pre-installed file management app or an app like ES File Explorer, you can enter and make room when you need it.

When backing up, it’s best to plug in your phone, as the first backup might take some time, depending on the size of the chat. The beauty is that every backup you make after the first backup is a gradual backup, which means that it will be added to the current backup, instead of erasing everything and restarting or adding all over the old backup, thus reducing space.

How to restore WhatsApp chats from a Google Drive backup

Everything is supported. Great! You have changed your phone or have to reinstall WhatsApp. Not so good How can you recover all your chats now? That’s it!

  • Launch WhatsApp from the main screen or app drawer.
  • Click OK and continue.
  • Enter your phone number to verify.
  • Click Next.
  • Click OK.

  • Enter your name
  • Click Next.

You can now access WhatsApp chat on any Android phone using WhatsApp. All you have to do is log in. So if you want to transfer WhatsApp data from one phone to another, follow the steps above.
